On the 15th of March, I participated in the Jane Street Electronic Trading Competition (ETC) alongside a group of friends, where we competed against other student teams from across Adelaide. The competition challenged us to develop an algorithmic trading program designed to maximise profit in a fast-paced, simulated market environment provided by Jane Street. Through various iterations of our algorithm and fine-tuning our trading strategy, we managed to peak top 10 teams out of the competition. The competition introduced to me my first practical experiences within the field of high frequency trading, which provided me with an alternative routes within the field of computing that is outside of software engineering.
